What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a method of promoting the body to begin natural healing, improving health, and increasing normal function. This is done by applying tiny needles to certain acupuncture points. The majority of clients remark that the acupuncture process is virtually painless.

The traditional Chinese explanation for acupuncture is that channels of energy flow in patterns through the body. These energy channels, also called meridians, are like rivers of energy flowing through the body to regulate every aspect of our physiology. An obstruction in the movement of these energy affects all the Meridians.therefore affecting functions of the body.

The scientific explanation is that needling the acupuncture points prompts the nervous system to release chemicals in the muscles, spinal cord, and brain. These chemicals will either alter or decrease the pain, or they will trigger the release of other chemicals and hormones which influence the body's own internal regulating system.

Dr. Lewis Asks some important questions of interest to La Porte residents - Chiropractor La Porte Dr. Lewis Asks...

How do you know when you're healthy?
Ask most La Porte residents this simple question and you're likely to hear, "When you feel good" or "When you're at your proper weight for your height" or "When you have lots of energy and vitality." Great answers. But our chiropractic patients know that true health is when your body is working as it was designed. True health is how you function, not how you feel.
What's your plan to deal with drug-resistant 'super germs'?
Chiropractors have always been concerned with the indiscriminate use of antibiotics, accelerating the mutation of microbes that make "wonder" drugs increasingly ineffective. My strategy? Do everything possible to bolster my immune system through proper diet, rest, exercise, clean air, pure water and an optimally functioning nervous system with regular chiropractic care.
