Commonly Asked Questions and Answers About Chiropractic Care

Why am I sick?  Why am I hurting?

In 1895, Dr. Daniel David Palmer, the founder of chiropractic, made a startling discovery: the vertebrae (spinal bones) can misalign and pinch the spinal nerves that carry messages between the brain and the cells of the body.  This nerve interference tends to lower the body's natural resistance to stress and disease and can produce a variety of symptoms, including pain, numbness, tingling, and abnormal functions in the body.

Can chiropractic help me?

Chiropractic can usually help any condition or symptom produced by spinal subluxations and pinched nerves.  Naturally, duration and severity are important factors.  By adjusting the vertebrae back in proper alignment, chiropractic relieves nerve pressure so that the living body is free to heal itself.

How does chiropractic work?

Dr. Lewis works to restore your Health Zones to normal by locating and adjusting your spinal misalignments, thus reducing nerve pressure, restoring nerve flow, and reestablishing normal function and natural resistance to disease.  As the cause of your condition is corrected, this allows the living body to heal itself naturally - without drugs or surgery.

How long will it take?

Each visit, Dr. Lewis will check your Zone Points to determine your progress.  It takes time to realign your spine and to reduce your nerve pressure, time to gently stretch the muscles, tendons and ligaments back into position.  As the Zone Points become less tender, you will usually notice that your Health Zones are beginning to heal.

Can Chirorpactic care improve my health?

By eliminating spinal subluxations, chiropractic improves the health of your spine and nervous system.  This restores your body's natural resistance to stress and disease.  Many patients claim that they have more energy and less illness as a result of regular chiropractic care.

Dr. Lewis Asks some important questions of interest to Pasadena residents - Chiropractor Pasadena Dr. Lewis Asks...

Can someone who has had back surgery receive chiropractic care?
Yes. Rest assured that we will avoid the surgically modified areas of your spine. However, what we find is that surgical interventions will often produce spinal instability above or below the involved level. This is will be the focus of your chiropractic care.
What is the purpose of pain?
Pain prompts many Pasadena folks to begin chiropractic care. But pain isn't the problem! Pain is just how your body alerts you that a limit has been reached (or exceeded), that something isn't working right and that some type of change is needed. As a chiropractor, my job is finding the underlying cause and recommending the changes needed to bring your body back into balance.
